Arena Crystal Shop - City Blocks

City Blocks is a series of copper wheel engraved pieces that feature well known landmarks from around the world. While architecture is challenging for the engraver, there is usually a character in the foreground who is central to the story. In each design there is a technical feature that showcases the engravers’ craft – it may be an optical illusion, reflections, a range of unusual textures or the design itself. Each piece is signed and numbered and is a collectors item, a work that is state of the art.

Arena Crystal City Blocks - Paris

Parisian Painter

This is first in a series of “City Blocks” featuring an artist working on a painting of the Eiffel tower. He has set up his easel beside an ornate lamp post a short distance from the famous landmark. There are many architectural details on both the lamp and the wall in the foreground. The tower itself is engraved on the back of the block and adds depth to the piece. With careful inspection of the work you can see the image of the famous landscape on the canvas.

Reflection on Liberty

For over a hundred years the Statue of Liberty has stood at the entrance to New York and symbolised freedom and opportunity to visitors. In this study the statue is in the foreground and the New York skyline is engraved on the back. Using the glass buildings as a mirror, they reflect the image of the statue as seen from the other side.
